Influences

'Cause I'm just so impressionable.

If you like any of these things, you might just like Lovefeast. Note that most of my influences' impact over my work manifests subtly.

Seduce Me After the Show Five stories about grown men and their relationships.

Probably the best BL I've read to date (unrelated honorable mention - I Can't Stop Loving You!, which I also really enjoyed) - mature, wistful, with a touch of melancholy. Another angle on daily lives, what love could have been; creative, compelling, touching, you'll want to own this.
Where's the influence? Well, LOVEFEAST isn't all about young love and boyish fantasies, either.

Gravitation A rockstar's rise to fame...and homosexual relationships.

My first BL series, and still one of my favorites. You never forget your first! You just know the author is out of her mind - the characters' emotions are so wildly portrayed, and the scenarios are insane. The author had fun with it - you can tell. You'll never forget Shuuichi's antics once you see it. Even if you want to. The anime is a tad more disappointing.

Yami no Matsuei: Descendants of Darkness Shinigami making sure those marked to die actually die.

A series close to my heart. Unfortunately, I have yet to finish the manga (or read much of it at all...gotta stop draggin' my feet), and apparently it was never finished at all, but the animated series (which was way too short) has a lot of connection to me. Ah, those were the days. Tsuzuki is still one of my favorite characters in anything (but I never cared much for Hisoka).

Soul Eater If you know anything about Soul Eater, you know it's yet another series relating to Shinigami.

In this case, a real Shinigami is training human beings to fight off demons/kishin at a wonderful, college-like weapons training facility. Sound familiar? I actually learned of this series after I started developing LOVEFEAST, and I love its style (in the anime, particularly; the manga doesn't catch me), but its more plot-oriented and social aspects are almost nonexistent. But I love it anyway. I'm cosplaying Maka soon.

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu Love, school, and...bombs.

This series is great. I don't care who you are, just watch it. Very few things cause me to laugh out loud. This made me do it a lot. Influence-wise, well, its action, wit, cleverness, rich animation, and subtle character development are fantastic for such a short series. It's something I dream of being able to convey in any medium.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Pierce the heavens with your XXX!

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Who isn't inspired by it? One of few TV shows that has repeatedly given me spine tinglies for one reason or another. It gets you fired up! (Honorable Mention: FLCL, also made by Gainax, is just as awesome.)

Tactics Tengu and supernatural situations!

I'm pretty sure the 8 or so episodes I've seen of this so far have had some impact on my thinking. At least, it's gotten me even more interested in Japanese folklore. I'll never get tired of series like this.

Watchmen A comedian died Friday in New York.

I was spurred on to purchase it by the movie's release to see what the movie did and did not do it justice, and to look into the leagues of backstory and info left out on-screen. It connects to me because of its execution - mindful of every step, able to frame the big things as well as the small and fulfill all actively pursued threads or plot. How someone could do something so grand in graphic novel format is beyond me.
I can't say there is a lot of direct influence, but I just love the way the story is done. To think I almost never read it.
